Technology Platform
Novacta has developed efficient methods for structural manipulation of lantibiotics in order to improve therapeutic and pharmaceutical properties.
In vivo biosynthetic manipulation
Novacta has cloned and sequenced the biosynthetic pathways to key members of the class B lantibiotics. Systems have been established which allow rapid, massively parallel modifications of the amino acid sequences and screening of the progeny lantibiotics. Novacta has tested large numbers of lantibiotic variants via this methodology and has purified, characterised and evaluated many improved compounds, some of which are the subject of patent applications.
In vitro biosynthetic manipulation
Novacta is also developing methodology for in vitro biosynthetic modification which will further extend the range of chemistries which can be achieved.
Semi-synthetic derivatives
Despite the complexity of these molecules, Novacta has also developed and applied synthetic methodologies for derivatisation of both the natural and variant molecules, again resulting in improved derivatives which are subject to patent applications.
