Metabolite Factories

'Single step microbial metabolite systhesis from drugs and agro chemical molecules'

Assessing how a living being responds to a medical drug is an important step in the development of safe therapeutic agents as metabolism can render a drug inactive or, in some cases, toxic. In many cases, the derivatives generated by metabolic processes can be as important as the drug itself with respect to biological activity and toxic effects. Obtaining sufficient quantities of these metabolites is necessary to confirm the metabolic route and to assess the safety of the drug, but can often provide a major challenge outside the living organism using traditional synthetic chemistry.

In addition, regulatory authorities, such as the FDA, expect the metabolic fate of a new drug to be thoroughly evaluated, with even low level metabolites requiring identification, quantification and testing.

For every pharmaceutical in development the key metabolites need to be made and tested to confirm identity,  for use as analytical standards, for toxicology and for pharmacological testing

  • Chemical synthesis can be laborious and time-consuming (and therefore expensive)
  • Microorganisms provide the same outcome quicker and cheaper than the corresponding chemical synthesis.Novacta's systems provide single step synthesis direct from the drug and easy to scale to 100's mgs, gs, kgs...
