Problem: Novacta Biosystems' customer needed P3 and P4 metabolites generated to confirm structure of metabolites seen in vivo. Production of sufficient quantities needed for pharmacological testing
Action: 50 carefully selected microorganisms screened for desired transformation
Solution: 100mg of both P3 and P4 obtained in good purity from 2L fermentation using two different organisms.
Phase 1 Example (2): O-Demethylation
Problem: Chemical mono-demethylation very difficult, have 2 -OMe and 1 -OEt
Action: Highly selective microbial mono-demethylation developed
Solution: Substrate concentration up to 5g/l
