Mild reaction conditions
Enzymes can be highly effective catalysts under very mild reaction conditions - low temperature, neutral pH and atmospheric pressure. This minimises potential undesired side reactions, for example, isomerisation, racemisation, decomposition and rearrangement, which can be associated with traditional chemistry.
The following biotransformation developed at Novacta Biosystems, is an example of a highly efficient chemoselective hydrolysis of a diester in a pH controlled aqueous reaction system.
